Well after having intermittent iDrive problems (see this thread and video) last Summer I had a completely new CCC unit fitted and for the last 8months all has been well. Alas as summer approaches again it seems the iGremlins that live in the iDrive have been awoken from their iHibernation and gone about destroying things again.
Car is a 2009 528i. No Nav installed. Got in the car the other day and noticed that the iDrive display was off. Tried pressing various iDrive buttons not no response. Tried the reset procedure by pressing the eject and mute button. It did reset but no change to the iDrive. Verified all fuses in the back and front are OK.
Just to say thanks to scoopz once more for the great work on highlighting the whole iPhone 3G contacts sync problem with BMW iDrive- nice work Neil. 🙂. I’ve just downloaded & installed firmware 2.2 & removed the additional fake 2000 contacts, leaving my original 200 contacts on the iPhone.
I am getting a "Drive Control System. Drive Moderately" message on the iDrive display and a yellow triangle with circle on the instrument cluster if I drive the car like 15-20 miles (on highway, local where ever). It is 2005 BMW 525i. The message goes off after a few minutes, but the yellow triangle remains (I think its a traction control
Basically it should work with any iDrive from gen 2 to gen 6 (aka NBT EVO). It no longer works with iDrive gen 7. If you do not have an access to the old BMW connected app in the app store, try googling BMW certified apps - you can load each of these apps onto your phone individually, and then access them through your BMW apps section under

4/ Pinch on boot lid and pull up. 5/ Disconnect two connector plugs. 6/ Rest of trim will pull up from the centre by hand, just lift gently (open centre console first) 7/ Disconnect iDrive plug. 8/ Remove iDrive from trim by removing 4 outer torx 20 screws. 9/ Open iDrive by removing 4 inner torx 10 screws. 10/ Clean sensors with alcohol swab. kqh9b.
